Africa and Middle East International Consultants (DBA: AMI Consultants, Inc.) was incorporated in 1994 as an LLC to provide consulting services and research for both U.S. and Sub-Saharan African entities in various areas including country risk analysis, capital markets, business and economic development. In 1996, it formed a non-profit subsidiary, AMI Business and Trade Promotions, Inc., focusing primarily on trade promotion, investments, and social activities between the U.S. and Sub-Saharan African countries. Both organizations have organized several conferences and symposiums on U.S- Africa trade and investment and also facilitated trade missions by key government and private sector Sub-Saharan African representatives to the U.S.
Robert G. Sherman, Ph.D.
Dr. Sherman is president of both AMI Consultants, Inc. and AMI Business Promotions, Inc. He received his BA (Economics) from Cuttington College (Liberia); MIM (Master of International Management) from Thunderbird Graduate School of International Management in Glendale, Arizona. He also earned an MBA and PhD (Business Administration) from Arizona State University with a major in Finance and minors in Economics and Global Business. He is a former Assistant Minister of Finance for Banking of Liberia. Dr. Sherman is a founding member and first president of both the African Finance & Economics Association of North America (AFEA), and the African Association of Arizona (AFASA). He served as a Visiting Scholar to the African Development Bank and the International Finance Corporation of the World Bank. He has also consulted for the Africa Bureau of the United Nations Development Program on private sector development in Africa.
Innocent Abiaka, Ph.D.
Dr. Abiaka is Executive Vice-President of AMI Consultants Inc., and AMI Business and Trade Promotions, Inc. He obtained a BA and BBA (business administration) from the University of Hawaii in Honolulu, and an MBA from The Thunderbird School of Global Management in Glendale, Arizona. He also earned an MPA and PhD (public administration) from Arizona State University. Dr. Abiaka has several years of experience in investment banking, and related aspects of the financial services industry. He held several positions at Valley National Bank in Arizona, which was bought by Bank One (now part of JPMorgan Chase). He served as director of investment research and vice president in the trust investment division, which had under management approximately $5 billion. He was appointed by the U,S, Secretary of Commerce to serve as a member of Arizona District Export Council. Dr. Abiaka has authored several journal articles and book review on investing in Africa.
